RE-PLACE BERLIN is a web-based urban project that aims to reveal and celebrate the everyday rituals of Berlin’s inhabitants. For Phase I of the project, residents of Berlin are invited to map out frequent routes from their day-to-day living, recording the regular patterns and particular moments associated with this journey, and offering others the opportunity to retrace the city in a way that directly relates to the lived experience of those who dwell there.
Participate by submitting your own route. We are curious to read about what it is that makes this route significant for you, what memories you associate with this journey, specific events that happened or keep happening along the way, things to look out for, details to observe, smells and sounds. Please make sure to indicate the streets and modes of transport, as well as the approximate time it takes to complete this route.
There are no requirements for the routes, as long as they are within the larger area indicated on the overview map. Your submitted route will be compiled and included online, available for other people to download and retrace. During Phase II people will be able to submit photos and text, recording their experience of your route, to then be uploaded to the website.
Please fill in the
submission form [
english] [
deutsch] and return it online ('submit form' button if you open the form in adobe acrobat) or by
email, together with a map of your route.
You can submit your map in one of the following ways:
1. Submit handdrawn map at PROGRAM (Invalidenstrasse 115, Berlin-Mitte).
2. Submit a detailed text describing the route. The description should be detailed enough for us to draw the exact path of your journey.
3. Use photoshop etc to draw your route on a digital file. Maps can be found at
map24.de or
stadtplan.de, or alternatively, they can be scanned in from a physical map.
4. Submit your map using Google Maps (you will need a Google account for this):
Log in to
maps.google.com. Click on My Maps. In the top left hand corner of the map you will see icons of a palm, magnifying glass, line and polygon - these allow you to navigate, zoom and draw. Use the line tool to draw your route onto the map. Once you've drawn your route click on "link to this page" at the top right-hand corner. This will provide you with a link which you can include along with your submission.
If you have any questions please
email us. Thank you for your participation!
